ICL (Implantable collamer lens)

For many patients seeking a high degree of vision correction to fit their active lifestyle, LASIK eye surgery is an effective method of correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. In fact, LASIK surgery is still the most common procedure to help those wishing to eliminate their dependence on eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Some patients, however, are not good candidates for LASIK because they are very nearsighted, because they have thin corneas, or perhaps because they have other conditions that might cause complications. For these patients, the Implantable Collamer Lens might be the best option for correcting their eyesight.

Instead of changing the shape of the cornea as in LASIK eye surgery, ICL lenses are placed inside the eye. This improves the focusing abilities of the eye’s natural lens. This procedure provides excellent quality of vision to give our patients the freedom to enjoy their active lifestyles here in East Tennessee.

The procedure can correct moderate to severe myopia, or nearsightedness, as well as moderate astigmatism. This procedure, which is performed at the Eye Surgery Center of East Tennessee, is an excellent match for patients who may not have been candidates for LASIK or who may have higher levels of nearsightedness.
