Better Vision for Life – November 2019

LASIK vs. Contacts

For most contact lens wearers, comfort is a huge and ongoing issue. If you’ve just spent another Fall in East Tennessee fighting seasonal allergies and trying to keep your contacts clear of pollen and dust, you may be ready to think about LASIK vision correction. LASIK is often the choice for people who are tired of wearing contact lens or who have trouble with contacts. For many people, LASIK can reduce or eliminate the need for corrective lenses by re-shaping the cornea to improve vision. Here are just a few of the reasons why people choose LASIK over contacts.

Comfort

Deposits can build up on contact lenses, or eyes can become sensitive to them, causing irritation and pain. During the Spring and Fall (especially in East Tennessee, one of the pollen capitals of the US), seasonal allergies are an issue, as pollen and dust become trapped underneath the contact and cause problems. For some people, simply placing contact lenses in the eyes or removing them can be an ordeal. LASIK vision correction can provide relief from that issue.

Convenience

Contact lenses are more convenient than glasses, but they also bring the hassle of daily cleaning and storage, and continual replacement. Travel complicates the daily chores. Should a lens be lost or come out during the day, the wearer must come up with a way to clean and replace it, often without the proper solutions. LASIK vision correction eliminates that daily fuss over cleaning and managing lenses. One life-changing advantage many LASIK patients report over contacts is that when they wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning, they can see immediately without reaching for a lens case.

Correction

For many patients, LASIK can provide better vision correction than contact lenses. For example, patients with astigmatism may benefit much more from LASIK than from having to wear a specialized contact that may cause vision to blur if it rotates on the patient’s eye. LASIK provides correction for the irregularities in the cornea that can cause astigmatism, so the correction can be much more permanent and stable than contacts.

Cost

Over time, the cost of contact lenses, eye examinations, and treatment supplies can add up. LASIK vision correction, while more expensive initially, can be a better investment in your vision, especially if you require specialized lenses or must change prescriptions frequently. Are you a contact wearer who’d like to know if LASIK can be a better choice for you? Simply complete our simple “Am I A Candidate?” questionnaire, and we will provide you with a custom evaluation on whether or not LASIK could be a positive option for vision correction. We have performed more than 10,000 LASIK procedures for East Tennesseans. We welcome the opportunity to discuss the advantages of LASIK with you.

Tony Basilio

Local sports radio host Tony Basilio is a frequent guest at the Campbell Cunningham Laser Center. But not for glasses or contacts. “I remember how brutal those contact lenses were. Especially during allergy season! Now, I don’t have to worry about those things thanks to LASIK procedure at the Campbell Cunningham Laser Center.” Basilio always relates his experience to sports: “I remember looking at the checkerboard end zone at Neyland Stadium and thinking that’s what they’re supposed to look like. Incredible!” Read more of Tony’s testimony HERE.
