What Makes The iLASIK Procedure Better?

LASIK vision correction is medical procedure with a very high success rate, and through the years, the technology associated with it has continued to improve. The latest technological advances are apparent in the iLASIK procedure used at Campbell Cunningham Laser Center. This is the same procedure used to correct the vision of astronauts, emergency medical professionals and firefighters, and professional athletes.

iLASIK is a step forward because of its customization. It’s not that each patient receives a custom procedure. Every EYE is given a custom procedure.

With iLASIK, we begin by creating a three-dimensional map of each eye, down to the tiniest variations and imperfections. The VISX™ Advanced CustomVue™ technology used to do this is extraordinary, and it gives the physician unprecedented capabilities.

The mapping technology is then married to laser technology. Because the laser can make very precise corrections, it must focus at the exact location on the eye, and the VISX™ STAR S4 IR Laser features a tracking system that locks on to the eye electronically, and keeps the laser targeted, even in the patient moves the eye in the slightest way. At the Campbell Cunningham Laser Center, each procedure is performed blade-free, using the VISX Intralase™, a femtosecond laser.

The results can be remarkable.  For example, take a look at this video about firefighter Michael Bravine and his iLASIK experience.
